My name is Tyrell White, and I am a professional pixel artist, animator, and game developer at White Guardian Studios. We specialize in mostly pixel art games and RPGs. I love creating pixel art and animation and collaborating on interesting and new ideas.
I have over a decade of experience creating pixel art. It all began with my early days of making Mugen edits featuring characters from classic Capcom and SNK fighting games. Over time, I developed my own distinct style by incorporating elements from these experiences. This journey has taught me to seamlessly adapt to various pixel art styles. Studying the techniques of talented artists, observing their shading and animation skills, has continuously inspired me to elevate my craft as a pixel artist.
I've been heavily involved in creating artwork for games inspired by the style of Megaman X. However, I would consider my specialty to lean more towards retro fighting games such as Marvel vs. Capcom or Street Fighter.
I'm quite versatile, proficient in creating character animations, UI elements, and tilesets from different perspectives. I take pride in my adaptability to fulfill diverse style requirements that my clients have presented in the past.
I initially used Photoshop, but Aseprite has become my go-to tool for creating pixel art and animations. Its specialized features have significantly streamlined my workflow, making it incredibly easy to bring my artistic visions to life.
My standard delivery includes PNG files along with GIFs to demonstrate the timing of animations. For smaller pixel art pieces, I also provide a version that is approximately four times the original size. This allows clients to evaluate the details and quality of the artwork without having to enlarge it themselves.
Most of my commissioned work comprises animations, which come with unique challenges compared to single sprites. Each animation frame requires meticulous drawing and cleanup to ensure smooth transitions between frames, often taking several hours or even a day or two for a high-quality animation.
The majority of my requests involve creating game-ready assets, particularly character animations. Additionally, I have experience in developing tilesets, pixel art effects animations, and occasionally working on videos.
I determine my pricing based on the estimated time required for each project. Smaller pixel art, such as 32x32 pixels or less, typically doesn't take much time. However, complex animations or highly detailed work can require a significant amount of additional time.
I strive to produce high-quality animations and am committed to ensuring client satisfaction. I offer as many revisions is needed to ensure that the final product meets their expectations, and I work diligently to achieve that goal.
Pixel art can be a costly investment, and typically, you get what you pay for. Professional pixel artists often handle multiple projects simultaneously, so it may take some time to achieve the quality you're seeking. It's crucial to thoroughly review the artist's portfolio to ensure they can deliver the style and quality you need for your project.
