I offer 4 different sessions, or ways to help players improve. The most common coaching I do is called earpiece coaching, in which I watch the player in a game live in discord and give direction, ask them questions about what they are seeing and thinking, and note issues with everything from key binds and camera control to decision making and strategy.
There are pros and cons to live coaching, so in some situations, I'll instead opt for the second type of session, which is VOD review. When reviewing a VOD of the client's gameplay, the main issue is that you can't see the players camera control usually, or their reasoning in the moment. However, you can give the student a more direct lesson, at their own pace, answer their questions while they can see the plays, and give them example based learning.
The other, less common options are 1) playing the student's champion in their ELO and showing them how to execute to win or to 1 vs. 1 spar with the student on their difficult matchups.
Introduction/ VOD review: Quick, clean, and easy to understand. Usually for players who is looking for help in one specific game. It can also be used as a introduction session for new comers if they are planning for a long term improvement but are not really sure what my coaching is about.
The Jack-of-all-trade: The standard package. According to your goals and my judgement. We may do (but not limited to): VOD reivew , pro play analysis, live games, custom games demonstation, theory lessons, small talks, mindset build up , etc. If you don't know which one to go for , this is your go-to.
Super in depth: As described in the name of the package, it's for players who has the budget and time to put in. On top of that , this package provides the highest discount of them all. Created for players who want to improve ASAP.
I stick to three options - 1 hour of live games, 1 hour of vods and both so live+vod for 1h and a half. I think they are enough and also the best ways to provide value both on a macro and micro way. I also have some experience as a team coach of low elo ranks where you can try out new things comps and actually have loads of fun! I also would never coach for a high elo team because then meta and player pride comes first, so coach job becomes a bit more of a "second side" thing but if some people like it, I don't see anything wrong with it, you know it's just my view of the things! I remember a team of plat players stomping us as masters players because they had a brilliant coach and player base they were respecting each other both in draft and as players and that made me think a lot about the role of a coach, it's like the glue to stick and make people realize everything and give an identity to a player. Every story starts with a coach!
I offer two types of coaching sessions. To both of them, my students need Discord.
1. Live Game Coaching - The player shares the screen and I'm helping my student to win the game. During live games I'm shot-calling, giving feedback about mistakes and bad decision-making. At the same time, I take notes and after the game, I talk about them with my students. However, usually live game coaching is not enough to notice improvement and I always recommend doing a VOD review too.
2. VOD analysis - The player provides me a VOD review or I download the replay via League of Legends client. In this case, I'm sharing a screen. During VOD analysis I can pause the game and we can talk accurately about mistakes with my students. I explain things and propose solutions. This is not possible during Live Game Coaching so I always encourage students to do Live Game Coaching + VOD review or at least VOD review, without Live Game Coaching.
1. Introduction/beginner session This session is ment for people who want to do a quick game review (30-45 min), this way I offer people an accessible option to improve. This session is also great for people who are interested in long-term coaching as this could be a way to communicate with each other and make things clear.
2. In-depth/advanced coaching session This session is a very in-depth session where people will learn everything they need and they can ask anything they want. These session can easily take up more than 2 hours depending on the student's needs.
3. Monthly training/long-term program This is a series of session fully tailored to the student's need and typically is booked by people who are very serious about their ranked climb and they want to hit their long-term ranked goal (diamond, masters, ... )
4. Team coaching
For every session I allow people to add friends, ... to the call if they wish too.
My coaching session format is generally split into three different ways:
1. A replay review where we go together over an already played game- this allows me to take more notes since I can pause and rewind.
2. A live game coaching where I copilot one throughout the game- I guide him where to go, what to do, in which way to approach a scenario- this is the option which seems a bit overwhelming to some people, while others only prefer it this way.
3. A live game where I don’t copilot you so much as the previous option, I take more notes and am only there to answer question and advise you- this is the option that is chosen by people that I’ve worked with multiple times before, since they consider it an exam of sorts.
As for group/team sessions, I have done those too, it mainly depends on what your needs are but those are easy to fix once we talk them over.
Typical coaching session consists of an introduction, interview with the player and - yet again - depending on their expertise (simply put: elo) we will talk through few topics regarding soloq and learning the game itself. Live game+VOD review is a standard format that can be modified according to the needs of the coachee and/or any technical inconveniences. Team coaching is a completely different process that usually involves a lot more time and work, that is optimized with the manager first. If we are talking about amateur teams, usually they ask for a VOD review with them on call.
I usually offer one on one 90-120minutes session. which is what I think is best. because 1 hour is Never enough to do anything. and then there are standard & premium packages that include multiple sessions that are also 90-120 minutes.
